Curious about the rows of "feminine hygiene" products next to the pads and tampons? Surely these sprays and powders are made because my vagina is supposed to smell like freesia or lilac, right? Some of them even say, "Doctor recommended!"
DON'T DO IT!
The vagina is self-cleaning. Douches, deodorants, powders, sprays, special cleansers, and the rest are NOT NEEDED. Vaginal discharge (as long as it is not chunky, green/yellow, or smells bad) is actually a healthy sign, that indicates the vagina is doing its job. The vagina also has a pretty sensitive pH balance, and can be easily thrown off by introducing other products. A dear friend of mine used to wash with antibacterial soap, assuming it would keep her vulva extra clean! Instead, it killed the GOOD bacteria, and caused recurring infections. She switched to just gently washing her labia with water, and was amazed at the difference.
