Teaching Children About Consent

Every parent I know wants their child to grow up to be confident, be resilient, feel good about who they are, and show compassion toward others. As parents, we want to communicate: "You matter. Your body matters. Your consent and boundaries matter." (Lisa McCrohan)

I'm thankful that the idea of consent is becoming more prominent in our culture. However, understanding consent doesn't just happen. It starts with helping children understand boundaries, both for themselves and others. That may seem like a daunting task, but I love this article, by Lisa McCrohan, on 5 Everyday Ways to Teach Your Child About Consent. Another good one to check out is by Kristin Hambridge (psychotherapist and sexual health professional) on children and boundary development.
