I adore Dr. Ruth. An icon, a pioneer, an inspiration. Most know her as a world-renowned sex therapist, educator, and author. However, she was also a Kindergarten teacher, trained military sniper, and is currently a children's book author. Women's health and sexual health education have been taboo subjects for so long, which has caused so much misinformation and ignorance about our bodies and how they work. This woman has fought against that her whole life, striving to bring this valuable knowledge into the light. The Bloomington Sex Salon, in association with the Center for Sexual Health Promotion at Indiana University, hosts community discussions with experts in the sexual health and education field. These discussions are hosted by Dr. Debby Herbenick (another sexual health idol of mine), who talked with Dr. Ruth about her journey into and within the sex education field. Peggy Orenstein, author of Cinderella Ate My Daughter (one of my favorites!) and Girls & Sex was also there to introduce Dr. Ruth. How many incredible people in the field be gathered in one place?!?
